Title of Minor: Classical Civilization

To Complete the 18 Unit Minor Select From the Following Courses:
Virtually any GRK, LAT, or CLAS* course offered by the department may be applied to the minor in Classical Civilization. For the minor, the University does not count 1XX-level study in the language used to satisfy the foreign language requirement. The University also requires that at least 9 units of the minor be taken at the 300-level or above.

We recommend that students minoring in Classical Civilization take one upper-division writing emphasis course in the Classics department.

*Only 3 units of CLAS 301 may be applied to the major. 

Definition of Minor
The minor in Classical Civilization is primarily an area studies minor complemented by some language study in ancient or modern Greek or Latin. Students develop critical thinking skills and work toward a broad understanding of the Greek and Roman world in their ancient Mediterranean contexts. Career Orientations
The Classical Civilization minor develops both writing and analytical skills and it also introduces students to timeless human experiences through literature, art, and archaeology, as well as through the long tradition shaped by the ancient Greek and Roman world. Students who minor in Classical Civilization have gone on to law school, business school, even medical school, as well as graduate study in various areas of the humanities.
